Beginning Band
The beginning band is for first year instrumental players to gain the necessary skills of performance. These students meet in like-instrument classes all year. These classes include Flute, Double Reed (oboe/bassoon), Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Low Brass (Euphonium/Tuba), Percussion. We combine these classes to perform at concerts and contests as a full band.
Concert Band
This group is made up of 7th and 8th grade students on every instrument in the band family. This ensemble requires the least amount of commitment outside of school and plays grade level appropriate music. The Concert Band performs at all NRMS Band concerts in the Fall, Winter and Spring.
Symphonic Band
This group is made up of 7th and 8th graders. on every instrument in the band family. This ensemble requires a once a week outside of school sectional (instrument specific) and plays 8th grade level music. The Symphonic Band performs at all NRMS Band concerts as well as the State's UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest as a Non-Varsity Ensemble. Eligibility (passing all classes) is required for all members of this ensemble.
Honors Band
This group is made up of 7th and 8th graders. on every instrument in the band family and is our most advanced performing ensemble. This group requires a once a week outside of school sectional (instrument specific), weekly individual practice sessions and plays high school level music. The Honors Band is our most active performing ensemble and performs at all NRMS Band concerts, the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest as a Varsity Ensemble and several festivals and contests throughout the year. Students in this group are also required to compete individually in our All-Region Competition in the Fall and Solo Contest in the Spring. Eligibility (passing all classes) is required for all members of this ensemble.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is mostly made up of 8th grade students from the Honors Band. We adhere to a standard instrumentation including a rhythm section where students play a secondary instrument. Participation in a concert band is required to be in Jazz Band. The Jazz Band participates in all NRMS Band Concerts as well as several Jazz Festivals in the spring.
